Graham Brown McAllister 1880
As relayed by his granddaughter Janet Ann McAllister Gillins
My “grandpa Mc” was such a kind gentle man. That is what I remember most
about him. His life wasn’t easy. As the oldest son he had a great deal of
responsibility, because his father was away from home often. He served a
mission in the southern states and came home with malaria. My father told me he
had bouts of chills and fever that kept him down for days at a time.
When I was a little girl he lived with us and built an additional two rooms on to
our home. He also made me a cupboard for my doll dishes.
He made wonderful popcorn balls, loved to go “pine nut picking” and had eyes
that twinkled with humor. He really enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. One of the
tributes made to him at his funeral was that, even in hard times, he always paid
an honest tithe.
